All about August

We all felt a little wiped out (like this picture of Tracen falling asleep in his high chair) after a busy June and July. August was just as busy but with more local action.


August was the month of visitors as we welcomed family visiting from out of town. First, was my Aunt Ella ( My Mom's older sister) from California who was here for her 50th High School reunion! She is pictured here with my Aunt Shirley & Uncle Lynn. They are local family, that we just don't see enough of with all of our busy schedules.



Next in town was Carl & Louise (but we call him Chip), who is my Dad's older brother from Ohio. They are world travelers, who have lived every where. They were cris-crossing their way across the states visiting family and friends, and we were lucky enough to catch a visit, as they also had a High School reunion to attend.



Next up was Tucker earning his "Bob Cat" in the cub scout program. He has been working really hard in scouts, and is very excited to pass things off.



Then of course we have FOOTBALL. More football pictures will follow in next months post, but as I have said in the past, it consumes the family schedule as it is a minimum of five days a week with all the practices and games. However the boys seam to want to play every year, so we keep signing them up! This is Tate coming off a great game against Syracuse.



Summer is always filled with family get together and reunions. The Penman reunion had the traditional saw-dust activity where the kids found money and treats. They had other games where they won pop and goodies. The big highlight was the items purchased at the famous auction. The kids came away with little trinkets and lots of good memories.



After the reunion we went bowling with my sister Jennie and her cute kids. I had some free bowling certificates that would expire in August, so we recruited them to come along and help to use them up. Some of them had never bowled before and did really well.




The week of the county fair is a pretty big deal in our area! Many kids raise animals, make crafts, or enter their 4-H items. EVERYONE goes to the fair to see all the exhibits, as there is no entrance fee. They come to sample the food at some of the famous stands, or just listen to the many performers. There is even a big parade that was almost two hours long. Tate is on the student council at his school this year and got to help decorate and ride on the float in the parade. We tried to find a nice shady spot to hang out while watching and supporting Tate and the little turkey tried to get us soaked! Luckily we were out of range, but it would have felt good on such a hot day.




Our school calendar always starts a week later that most, but this year it felt like winter on the first day. The kids were all bundled up with coats as it was pouring rain and we even got a little hail so we didn't get the famous first day photo. So we oppted for a second day of school photo instead. Tanner had to dress up as he had a football game later in the day and as it was still cold so the other kids huddled together waiting for the bus. Weird weather, especially for August!


So that is all about August. Hopefully it will not take me so long to catch up with September!
