If you build it... they will come, is a classic line from the movie "Field of Dreams." We have been very blessed and lucky to have built our house during 2007, in a field of dreams in a rural community where we get to enjoy seeing the gifts of nature. Jeff is a sort of " Jack of all trades" when it comes to home improvement projects, so that is the only way we could build our dream house is with him doing a ton of the work!
When we came upon the plans for this home, it had a crawl space for the foundation. I can not tell you enough how I HATE crawl spaces. Our last house had one, and I hated getting on my hands and knees to go get something. So we decided that we would change the house plans to have a full walk out daylight basement. It was one of the best decisions we made, as that gave us a whole other level of space. We had plenty of space on the main and upper levels, but we thought it would be a good use of space, just in case any of our parents needed a place to live in their advancing/ retirement years. So we joked between the sets of parents who would sleep where.
Fast forward to today's blight economy, job losses, many people loosing their retirement in the stock market has really effected many in the community and in our own family. So the decision was made that my parents should fast forward their retirement plans and come live with us, in our big basement, as soon as we could get the basement finished. So, Jeff has been working like a mad man to get things done. I am so proud of him and all of his talents! He has made it so nice, like their own little apartment or condo. They have their own kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom, office, family room, fireplace, and entrance.
I also have to thank my family & friends who have pitched in! Many have helped out in different ways! A big thanks to Jed at Jeff's work who was a former professional painter and volunteered to come and paint! He was awesome!
Heavenly Father has really made this happen as quickly as it has. We have had several obstacles, and each time the problem was solved and could see his hand in many things.
So we have built it (almost finished the basement), that is why we have been so busy, and they are coming/ moving in this next week. We think it will be a blessing on all sides to have them with us. My Dad is an avid gardener/ landscaper, so with us having five acres we are going to let him do his thing, especially in our front flower beds. My Mom is the family history guru, and will be fun for the kids to see them more. So you will probably read a few more post about Grandma & Grandpa Gus and all of their adventures with us!

I had no idea this was happening. I am sure it will benefit all involved.
We can't wait to see the finished product. We are glad everything has worked out.
Thanks for all of Jeff's hard work on such a short time table. We know they will be well taken care of there. Huge thanks!
What a great thing to do. We wish you all many happy memories from this.
We offered my parents to come take over Mykell and Bryces' rooms when they go to school next year, but my parents said that if they're going to move, they would rather go somewhere warmer. Wouldn't we all! LOL. I guess you have to be REALLY desperate to stay with us.
Can't wait to see it. Glad it all miraculously worked out.
